Where exotic butterflies perch on you..Butterfly Sanctuary, Ontario, Canada

With over 2,000 species of butterflies from all over the world, the Butterfly Sanctuary in Ontario, Canada is ideally located near a Botanical garden and Niagara falls. The package given to tourists includes a visit to all these breath-taking sites in one day. A documentary is shown to prepare you for the wondrous sight within the sanctuary, but can anything prepare you for the tropical forest within, with amazing flora and fauna and butterflies of all shapes, colours and sizes flying all around you? A slice of heaven? A fantasy land? A Fairy tale? call it what you want…………There are bridges, beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees which compete with the flying beauties for your attention..it is said that if a butterfly perches on you, it brings good luck. Of course, they perched in plenty on my husband and son..finally I had to get my husband’s white handkerchief…..and lo and behold, they sat on me too….is it the male pheromones ? did my perfume shoo them away ? I’m glad we all felt lucky ūüôāIMG_1860IMG_1916IMG_1864IMG_1861IMG_1866IMG_1868IMG_1863IMG_1902IMG_1901IMG_1905IMG_1913IMG_1899IMG_1890IMG_1876IMG_1875IMG_1904IMG_1906IMG_1862

Negative calorie food….cheapest, grown locally, fresh

There is an increased awareness of what goes in us and comes out of us!!!!!!!!! Maybe it’s the social media, the zillions of pictures posted, the adulation and mutual appreciation that makes us more conscious…………as long as we do not obsess over our diet and eat healthy food and remain within the weight/ height chart, it is a good thing that has happened. There is a plethora of information, myths, studies, research and interest in food. A lot of the ‘super-foods’ are available locally, others reach us from thousands of miles away. The negative calorie foods require more energy to¬†metabolize¬†them than they produce.¬†In my mind, the important points to consider¬†regrading¬†food, the ¬†most useful and¬†inexpensive among them, grown in India are :

  1. Eat fresh food as far as possible, that grows locally around you. It has the advantage of variety as different food grows in different seasons……..if you can grow it yourself, there is nothing like it.
  2. Cucumbers are amazing, with a dash of salt and lime( which is also great for you), they  need to be washed in drinking water before consumption.
  3. Watermelon is great for you as well.
  4. Apples- remember, an apple a day keeps the doctor away?
  5. Oranges, lime,,,enjoy.
  6. Cabbage and lettuce….beware of cysticercosis, clean thoroughly or boil.
  7. Carrots and radish.
  8. Bean sprouts.
  9. Tomatoes.
  10. Spinach.
  11. Cauliflower.
  12. Papaya, pineappleIMG_4574 IMG_0032 IMG_1742 IMG_3840……………………..and ………………
  13. MANGOES ūüôā go for it, a glowing skin is a bonus………. ¬† ¬†
  14. Spices…garlic, ginger, coriander, cumin and chillies boost your metabolism.
  15. Broccoli is grown locally as well now.
  16. The only zero calorie healthy drink is water..you can add a dash of lime, some people add honey. Red wine is supposed to be good for you, but hasn’t made it to my list. ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†You do not need the exotic asparagus, blueberries, strawberries, etc etc……eat a rainbow of their ‘poorer country cousins’, which are amazing when it comes to health and nutritive value…..eat 3 small bowls of fruits / veggies per day. That does not mean that you should not eat a doughnut or enjoy a fatty meal…..:)IMG_2790
