Yoga can heal and harm

Everybody is an expert on yoga today….Happy International Yoga day. Yoga is for healing and works wonders. It is human beings who modify, distort the poses or overenthusiastic teachers who can make non-fit pupils engage in over strenuous and difficult poses, which can harm them. Yoga is 99.999999% beneficial, if you have a trained instructor. Some asanas can hurt you. For instance:

  • If you have a disc prolapse or a back problem, bending to touch your toes without strengthening your para-spinal muscles can be dangerous.
  • A head stand can increase the intra-ocular pressure, which can harm a patient of glaucoma. How many instructors ask about that ? what about yet-to-be diagnosed cases?
  • Strain on the knees should be avoided by those with knee problems.
  • Do not join mixed age groups with varying levels of fitness. new
  • Consult your physician before starting
  • Know your ‘weak areas’
  • Strengthen muscles required before assuming poses than can harm you
  • Everyone needs a tailor made regime
  • Choose a teacher who doesn’t charge money ( as far as possible), yes there are people available like that….our grandparents, who practiced yoga and passed it on to us, used to say “the special quality that can be passed on leaves as soon as money changes hands”. If you pay, let it be a session just for you.
  • Strains, muscle and ligament injuries, even paralysis have been reported with yoga

Enjoy the best exercise in the world-with caution. It can work wonders for you, but you may need different asanas specifically for you.  In the picture above, most yoga experts will find a 1000000 mistakes!!! Get a basic knowledge of the human anatomy, muscles, joints and nerves, make it ‘Age-Appropriate’.

Camouflage -Grasshoppers

Most living creatures have camouflage mechanisms to protect themselves in the wild from predators. Among the several insects and animals which can merge with their surroundings, grasshoppers have the ability to avoid detection by blending into the background.

This grasshopper, like all others, feeds on plants. It is not really obvious as it sits on a green leafy plant.

Parrots and dogs perturbed by a Drone-Video

We had gone to attend a wedding early this year. When we had time to breathe, our son decided to fly his drone over the numerous tall trees. There were two dogs lying down quietly, when they saw the drone, they became alert, their tails wagging furiously, followed by barking and running away. I guess they could not decide if it was friend or foe.

It was evening, a time when birds fly home to their nests, to do whatever is is that birds do!!! As the adults watched, the teenager flew the drone over a cluster of trees, What happened after that was unprecedented and totally unexpected. We gathered to take a look as a group of parrots decided to attack it, treating it as a ‘hostile alien UFO’. It was a beautiful moment and one that we had never seen before. They were perched on the tallest tree, when the drone hovered near them, making a drone-like sound of the wind blowing and the motor running, they flew away and encircled it in a large group, flying around it. The noise they made was unbelievable!!!

PS– I did not realize the family would be there, and that it would be such a long video….for the part about the dogs, forward the video to 3 minutes, for the parrots-7.40 minutes………..

The best part of the Whataroa River-Video

The Whataroa river is ideal for adventure and the thrill that adrenaline junkies seek. At one point, the noise of the turbulent gushing water is replaced by utter silence…………….the raft stops rocking, you can stop rowing and actually just float and look around….I would like to have an office there!!!!!!!!!!!

Crystal clear water straight from the southern Alps surrounds you, there are steep rocks on both sides, the water calmly flows through a gorge between the rocky mountains………..yes it’s a gorge and it’s Gorge-ous 🙂

Nevis Bungy, 134 meters of free fall, Queenstown, NZ

It’s a rare occasion when two entire families have one child ………………..and they get together and ask that child to jump from 134 meters into a ravine………..from the place that the Bungy as we know it  started in the world….

This was in the ‘World’s Adventure Capital’, Queenstown in New Zealand. The teenager was literally asked to fling himself head first off a moving platform ……..to perform what has been described as the most daring and adrenaline filled activity ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, even now when I look at this video, my heart races, my pupils dilate and my fingers cross……….I even pray that he comes back up safely!!!!!!!!

Do not miss this unique experience if you get a chance…………..
