Red roses-a 100 per bush, our garden

Most of the plants in our garden were planted by gardeners under the supervision of my parents. My sister and I added a few more. We have a vegetable garden too, which has garlic, beetroot, ladies finger, brinjal, mint and spinach in it right now. The garden has the local grass so it is not a perfect green carpet but it feels lovely beneath our bare feet. The roses are of different varieties. The local red roses have the maximum fragrance. Our rose bushes produce over a hundred roses each…..

Zero to 100 Red lilies in 1 day

DSC00677 DSC00678 DSC00679Our garden is vibrant and radiant…due to the hundred plus large bright red lilies that currently dominate it. A glorious sight, the sunbirds and butterflies agree with me ๐Ÿ™‚

Green bee eater-flight mode

A colourful, beautiful bird that poses patiently and flies and perches repeatedly until I get the flight mode….a gorgeous little bird that is present all over the Indian landscape, spotted in Haryana…

Red Lily-our garden

There is something extra special about the first lily of the season in our garden….especially if you see it after the wake up call of the Kpyal in the mango tree. There is a row of lilies waiting to bloom, red is definitely a vibrant and attractive colour ๐Ÿ™‚

Rainbow bird

Yes, the highways are full of green, blue, orange and black birds…..but today this particular bird by the side of the road caught my eye, and it seems that I caught it’s eye too….it sat calmly while I spoke too fast, got out of the car too jerkily and calmly posed while I took a picture….I could see a dash of pink, blue, purple, mauve, orange, black , brown…….off white, grey…….

Koyal-Indian Cuckoo, our garden

How can a weekend not be splendid if you spot and capture(on film) the bird that wakes you up with its musical, throaty and repetitive song? Our Koyal sits on our Neem tree in the backyard and our mango trees in the front of our home ( outside our bedrooms). It sings every single day, a melody which makes the exercise of getting out of bed a pleasant one…yes, I recorded it, but I’m not sharing since you all have not heard the green woodpecker song yet! ๐Ÿ™‚

Sleeping partners

If you can trust someone to not stab you when you’re asleep, you’ve pretty much got it made ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Holi-festival of colors

I’m not going to tell you ALL about Holi, suffice it to know that it is a festival of colours and social interaction. People are known to consume bhang/ hashish/ hallucinogens at this time…

Happy Holi

2 Green Woodpeckers and the recording of their sound

Our Himalayan home is surrounded by birds of many species. They are a delight to watch and they seem unafraid of my presence around them. They fly over and by me, often making me climb up and down the 250 steps cut out in the mountain we live on. I showed them to my husband and son, who looked at each other and said, “why is everything so exciting for her? she sees them everyday!”. One of the green woodpeckers appears to have ‘no red cap’ which these woodpeckers are supposed to have. The high pitched sound that I recorded which accompanies this post may belong to any bird nearby! I just admire the birds immensely, I do not pretend to have any knowledge about them ๐Ÿ™‚

Turkish ceramics-manufacturing

Apart from the mosques, palaces and nightlife in Turkey, the pottery and ceramics hold a special appeal. What goes into making them? We took a tour around a manufacturing company and they were kind enough to show us the various stages involved….

The first plate below shows that various stages…the plate is made and ย prepared for the sketch, which is done by a freehand technique!! It is colored in two stages and baked/fired at extremely high temperatures to create the final product….
