Cloud nine is a feeling

When you see the first rose of the season

Take a bite of the first mango

When you don’t need a reason

When there is an explosion of colour, a rainbow

When you’re with the ones you love

When those not with you smile from the heavens above….

When you can soar without wings

When you stop caring about material things

Your soul thrives in your mortal form

Then you can brave any storm…

Be happy, be blessed

Take time to de-stress…..DSC08108

Wild cacti which flower-Himalayas

By the side of the Mighty Ganga river in the Himalayas, even the cacti flower in gay abandon. This region is named Devbhoomi or ‘land of the Gods”. Untended, in the wild, every species of plants and animals survives, actually thrives. The mountains are majestic, never menacing for peaks that are higher than the eye can see. The beautiful cacti are by the side of the road, their millions of red flowers blossoming among the thorns.

Mommy’s little helpers

While driving through a village, a little boy and girl caught my eye. They were carrying bundles of twigs on their heads, their tiny hands steadying them lest they fall. They were walking with the energetic and zig zag gait typical of children. When they reached the highway that ran across the village, they stopped, looked back at a lady following them…..they called out to her gently to come to them, addressing her as their mother. She had a larger bundle on her head. The children were dressed in clean clothes, their hair combed neatly. The place they had chosen to halt was near a wall that had an advertisement for a school on it. I hope and pray that they get a good education and lady luck smiles on them. They were hard working, cheerful and did not run across the highway………

Pink and pretty roses-our garden

Our climbing rose never fails to impress with the large number of roses it produces all at once….they appear one fine day when the heat from the sun is near-unbearable. The shower like arrangement of the roses entwined around our Neem tree is a sight for eyes blinded by the tropical sun….

DO you look good when you itch??

Watching a magnificent bird by the highway is a pleasurable past-time. Nature allows you to connect, reflect and ponder over some of life’s basic truths. For instance, watching this bird made me wonder if the ‘acid test’ or ‘gold standard’ to judge the beauty of a living being is to observe them in unfavourable circumstances. The test of true grace and beauty? watching a good looking person or animal when they itch or scratch themselves in public!!! The bird passed with ‘flying colours’……is the object of your admiration/ desire worthy?????

Flying kiss

It’s not often that I see birds flying to each other for a kiss…..the flier was vertically challenged and made up for it by flying…..I wonder if really short people who love really tall people should learn how to fly? or attach jet propellers? 🙂

Enjoy your own cart

How often do we look at what others have? In terms of riches, comforts, success (can that even be defined?), a partner, a car. a gifted child? Do we ever know what burdens they carry/ hardships they face? My mother often told me that we get a ‘package deal’ in life….the percentage of the good, bad and ugly varies with every life on this planet. We have to sit back and enjoy what we have, instead of yearning/ lusting for what we perceive another human has………enjoy your horse cart, don’t waste your time drooling over another’s limousine….here. today, now, is as good as it gets…….

Boy in the tree

Admiring, or gaping at passing trees, shrubs and animals is my hobby! Imagine my surprise when I saw a young lad in a tree….he definitely was not nesting 🙂 It was a kikar tree……….I have purposely avoided taking pictures of his face, though he did smile and wave at us….he was in the tree to break off a few twigs for the dental hygiene of his family. Yes, the bitter twigs of several trees are used for the purpose of cleaning the teeth. Apparently the bacteria keep away, as proved by his perfect smile. History shows that twigs were used thousands of years ago for this purpose…
