Allamanda-our garden today

The Allamanda Violacea or purple allamanda originated from Brazil. It is an ornamental plant which has chosen to flourish in our garden. I have finally got a rainbow, with flowers of all colours in our garden …..image

Beauty Regimen….be one with nature

Born into a family which did not pamper it’s outer appearance but stressed on sharpening the brain, we have not been getting pedicures, manicures, or letting people wash or style our hair. Luckily, we were brought up by surgeons and eventually became surgeons so the constant cleansing of the body made sure we were well scrubbed and did not possess dead skin which salons and beauty parlours needed to peel away. I wash and scrub and use bright nail paint, perfume, lipstick on my own, follow a short-cut self grooming ritual that leaves me with time to go for long walks, to admire the flora and fauna. Step into the salty waters of the sea, ocean shore or river……walk barefoot and you will be amazed at how good you feel….there is a glow that comes from happiness and contentment when you are in sync with nature, which no bottle or lotion can provide. Look less into mirrors and more into the water, or the eyes of loved ones to see how beautiful you are…

Our first orchids are blooming

Our orchids were bought with the hope of seeing them bloom and add colour to our garden and add happiness all around. They have exceeded all expectations and are blossoming beautifully. There are some transplanted on our trees which are showing signs of blooming too … imageimageimageimage

Mr Bunny, our neighbour

Some of the many boons of living in the lap of nature are the animals that roam free, the plants that blossom, the clouds and heavens that surround us…..the joy of seeing an uncaged bunny hopping and nibbling on the foliage is indescribable…

The little cherry tree laden with fruit

Size does not always matter…..that is what I learned from the littlest cherry tree that I have ever seen, which was laden with the most delicious cherries. The fruit laden tree is an example of broken stereotypes….of individuality, of exceptions that dare to break the rules, Make your own path, have a style of your own, do not let anyone dictate what you should look like….do deeds that honour mankind.

Wild cacti with flowers- Himalayas

The Himalyan landscape has to be seen.. Nay, experienced to be believed. When a wall of wild cacti appears along a trek, with an abundance of sun-dance golden flowers … One has to believe that there are powers higher than us.. The purple of the jacarandas adds the perfect background….

Be different, be you…

How must it feel for a tree to be horizontal in a land that boasts of some of the tallest vertical trees in the world? The only horizontal tree on these mountain slopes caught my eye as it was unique….which is another word for ‘different’ or even ‘abnormal’. Dare to be you, to be who you were meant to be…

Footprints disappear when you do

Posterity….bloodlines…..lead to bloodshed and cruelty. Why are we obsessed with ‘our names’ carrying on forever…..even if that does happen, it will not be a person people remember, it will be a name of someone they do not know, just like any other name of a person who perished without leaving a trace in history books. Live while you can, do not obsess with the name or after life……life is  gift, this moment is a gift….and I really have to eat unhealthy food with my loved ones right now 🙂

Temple of Bells, Himalayas

Unlike any other temple, this temple is in the Alaknanda river, and is located within  the water. When floods and destruction occurred in this region, plans were being made to relocate the temple…it was believed by many that the temple should stay where it was to prevent further damage. Anyone can visit the temple, ask for a wish to be granted, and return to donate a bell when the wish comes true!! Apparently the powers-that-be grant all wishes here, as there are innumerable bells there…

The heavens above water the fields

Rice plantation is back breaking, each sapling is planted by hand, separately in soil that needs water that drenches the growing plant…..in the North-Eastern part of India, that poses no problem since the heavens above open up twice a day to water the rice…..black rice is a favorite in these parts too….
