Orchids on trees, Manipur, India

The land where orchids bloom on trees…

Where paddy fields are watered by the heavens above

Where wildlife coexists with humans

Where waterfalls cascade and lilies blossom

Such a place does exist

It is called the North East..,

‘Queen of the night’ flowers

She flowers when the sun goes down

She’s the talk of the town

Her fragrance is intoxicating

Romance-inducing and invigorating

The delicate star like blooms are shy

They blossom after sunset and close before sunrise

They have not analysed her chemicals

I’m sure she is the Queen of miracles….

Twilight zone

Have you ever hovered between energy and lethargy

When your brain stopped analysing

And your soul sang with glee

When you got over evaluating and agonising

Not worried where you were headed

Knowing that you belonged

That you had reached.……

In-flight marvellous co-passenger

Meet Moji from Arunachal Pradesh, India, who is a post-teen, pre-adult 20 year old who studies in Delhi . He traveled with me in the first row of the plane. While most people were groggy and obviously sleep-deprived (one had to leave home before sunrise to board on time ), Moji was well turned- out, cheerful and sat with his arms close to him, keeping himself confined to his seat and not pushing/ jostling or spilling over to the next passenger. Apart from friends and family , I have never encountered such a soft-spoken and well mannered young man. He said ‘excuse me’ to get past people and offered to share his breakfast with those around him!!!! There is hope for a world in which such young people live … he has tattoos on his hands which read ‘ Help me Lord ‘. I told him he was a very good child and conveyed my admiration and respect for his parents for his wonderful upbringing… he smiled and told me that one does not meet many people like me either !! God bless him and may he never change…, the next time you judge a child for tattoos etc, think again!! img_0809img_0812 Continue reading

A trashy heartfelt poem, from the archives

When we met you did not believe in love at all,

At the start you played hardball,

It was our destiny, our fate,

Luckily you were not too late,

You scooped down and picked me up in your arms,

Off went a million alarms,

We threw caution to the winds,

We were in a spin,

We started our tango, our love dance,

We both drowned in our romance,

Never was anybody so happy to drown,

Thus began the countdown,

To our union, our passion,

We both swung into action,

The heavens above and the earth below,

Did their blessings bestow,

Forever entwined, our hearts, souls and mind,

We are pieces of a puzzle, two of a kind,

Never shall I leave you,

Doesn’t mean I’ll obey you,

We shall argue, we shall fight,

Through it all we shall love with all our might,

I’m a pseudo, the queen of conceit,

I’m a liar and full of deceit,

Though what I’ve accomplished is no mean feat,

There is a part of me that’s vulnerable and sweet,

Darling why are you miles away,

With you I want to stay,

Yours is the face I see,

In happiness and misery,

You are the only one for me,

You allow me to be just me,

You can affect me,

Upset and elevate me,

Why and what are we waiting for,

Come here, from typing my hands are sore!!

Our Night flowering jasmine-at midnight!

Like any other half-witted scheme that originates from my mind, I decided at midnight that I had to see our Night flowering jasmine tree at night…..since the millions of flowers bloom at night and are shed in the early hours of the morning….I now call this the Twilight Zone Tree……..it was pitch dark, a tiny pencil torch shone on it showed the fragrant pearly blossoms …a sight that I had never imagined would be so breathtakingly beautiful…..you had to be there to sniff and see and savour the sight….

Sibling revelry, not rivalry

My sister inspires me….we love each other unconditionally, forever…..hence we can afford to be brutally honest with each other! We fight, we make up, discuss the secrets of our souls, brag about each other, look up to and rely on each other. She has always been brilliant and a fearless firebrand. She is well read and eloquent and knows everything about the universe….I often consult her when I don’t understand something. My parents ensured we had no sibling rivalry and have been close, They used psychology to make us bond in a unique and everlasting way……she is a fabulous and gifted doctor, an artist, a chef, an innovator, an explorer…the only lady I know who has been to Easter Island!!!!! Please bless her God, and keep her healthy and happy, and make sure she exits this planet after me….I need her and love her 🙂

Nyctanthes arbor-tristis-Night flowering Jasmine, harsingar

Our Harsingar/ parijat/ night flowering jasmine tree is called the tree of sorrow as it loses its flowers at dawn, which open only at dusk. It provides us immense joy and makes our mornings heavenly as the exotic flagrance from the fallen flowers spreads far and wide. Some people use the leaves to cure arthritis, the flowers are used to exact perfumes and oil…..each part of the tree apparently has some medicinal or culinary value…we enjoy the sight and fragrance of it every morning…….

Your eyes reflect your emotions

Yes, an ophthalmologist can tell if you are lying…or angry or excited!!!! The pupil reveals your emotions to a large extent. Volumes have been written on the subject, studies have shown the pupil to be quite reliable….an alternative lie-detector? who knows what the future holds….meanwhile, while I act silly and giggle, I might be observing more that you think!!!!

Oriental white eye birds-partying in our garden

What better way to wake up than to witness a bird-party in your own backyard! I had kept a dish full of water for birds to drink from, but one day I was told that a pigeon was taken by a cat while it was busy drinking water…..the cat has been banished forever(a stray that visited)…and the water dish is filled with mud……..these birds decided to have a mud bath…I clicked pictures before I realized I should enjoy the show, and put away the camera…..
