Juvenile black crowned night heron in flight

The internet gives me the name of a bird I see wherever I go nowadays…..beautiful flight of a not-so-colourful bird…..

Caper white butterfly in India!!!!

The exclamation marks indicate that the internet says that this butterfly is not found in India……while this one was photographed by the roadside in the heart of India. A beautiful butterfly, it is not camera shy and poses while it flits from one wild flower to another….

Flight of the heron

The heron is a graceful and beautiful bird. When it takes off, you cannot help but admire its majestic form …

Chrysanthemums-our garden

The yellow Chrysanthemums in our garden are flourishing…..apart from being ornamental, the white and yellow ones are used to make tea, flavour wine and the leaves are used in food! They are natural air purifiers for indoors!

Things that make me go uuuggghhhhhh

Hmmmm…..Ok, to the people who think I’m always grinning, with my head in the clouds, in an alternate reality….You are right!!!!!

But some things do annoy me, and stop the silly grinning for a moment. Since I keep on about my favourite things, it’s time to speak about things that make me go uugghhh……

  1. People texting on their phones at parties or social events….If you are that busy, don’t bother to attend
  2. Children who wear a lot of make up…enough said
  3. Inner wear peeking out of the outer wear…keep it in
  4. People who are cruel to animals
  5. People who are cruel to children and other people less privileged than them
  6. Shameless plagiarism or incessant copy and paste…..I want to know how you think, no matter how boring you may think you would sound
  7. Favouring a son, while ignoring a daughter
  8. Children who scream in movie theaters, while the parents ignore them, the kids are not at fault, the parents are
  9. Maids who look after kids,  and are brought along uninvited at functions. People go to the extent of taking maids on foreign tours, which maybe great, except that the maid is made to sleep in the same room as the employers!!!!
  10. A man who boasts of men being forced to cheat on their partners because it’s a man thing
  11. Parents who hit their kids or abuse them
  12. Partners who hit their better halves in public, I guess some are into violence, if it’s consensual, keep it private…or get a psychiatric consultation
  13. People who always make their friends pay at restaurants for them, and go to the washroom when the bill arrives, instead of outright asking the other to pay
  14. The gropers and stalkers, pedophiles and rapists
  15. Those who crib non-stop, and those who ill treat their elders                                                    Of course, those who are saccharine over -the-top sweet, praise a little too much, while they criticize those not present………Time to shrug off the pests and focus on the great people and wonders around us…:) Cheers, life is short, nobody has a perfect life, enjoy it while you can.

Close encounters with birds…..our garden

This is the closest a bird has ever sat and posed for me…yes, it was aware of me and looked at me and sat while, turning this way and that….it sat 3 feet away…the camera protested that it could not focus on a bird that was not far enough!!! it sat patiently, and even turned its back on me for a minute!!!! that was an act of absolute trust……I made myself leave after a few minutes…..this bird is a daily visitor and probably thinks I’m a plant ….or vegetable….thank you to the powers-that-be 🙂

The King caught the Fish…King-fisher

For a while, I have been ignoring the brilliant blue Kingfisher as we have ‘guests’ from other nations…..birds that winter in India. I wonder if they snootily declare “You may summer in France but we winter in Incredible India”. A bright blue shiny object distracted me from the near-endangered and endangered birds around it by swooping down against the setting sun and scooping up a fish…..I have caught this bird on camera a few times with a fish in its beak……this time is was extra special….

Mr Kite is a head-turner

Just when I thought Mr Kite could not give me any more preferential treatment…..he does the complete head turn…..he and I play a game…I click a few pics, he flies along the road to perch at a new location and I follow….the best work-out ever for me…I run to keep up…the one time I did not follow, he circled back to me!!!! I wanted the head-turn, shouted to him and he did it……if you’re a cynic or skeptical…..this blog is not for you 🙂

Batman’s hang-out

Overcoming the eeewww and eeeks , I clicked at the Batmen hanging from their ‘tree-house’. Bats are scary because of the vampire movies and a species of vampire bats that feed on blood. They are generally harmless as far as humans are concerned, and carry out the function of pollination and eating pests that devour fruits! I have a fear of them because one of them with a faulty navigation system crashed into me as a child…..and I screamed like a banshee……a fact that was included in my book…..

The darkness within us

I was admiring a bunch of Allamanda flowers  in our garden, and went close to a flower to get a whiff of it’s fragrance…….when I was close enough…..out climbed a bee!!!! The beautiful tubular flower was perfect, it gave no outwardly indication of the insect deep within it…..are humans like that? are we polished on the surface, angelic even…..while demons and darkness live within us??? are we all capable of terrible crimes??? do some of us demolish the darkness forever? do others give in to the dark side and allow it to overtake any goodness in them?? Should we be more understanding of the mistakes/ blunders made by others?? should we never say that we are incapable of horrible deeds???? there must be a line between meanness/ terrible mistakes and heinousness and depravity??? Do genetics and circumstances dictate/ modify our behaviour patterns??????????………………………..the poor bee was oblivious of the nuclear chain of thoughts it had unleashed……………..
