Fight osteoporosis naturally

If you think you are young and healthy and can not get osteoporosis, think again. Get a DXA scan done today….certain health measures can keep your bones healthier and stronger. All you get is one set of bones, keep them in great condition. What you need is:

  1. Enough sunlight—about 25 minutes per day, without sunblock. Make sure you are not genetically or environmentally prone to skin cancer. In that case, get Vitamin D supplements.
  2. Eat enough calcium in your diet.
  3. Get enough exercise–half an hour a day is fine. Overdoing it can ruin your knees and ligaments. Walk briskly rather than running. Dance to a tune you love instead of aerobics ( only a few can manage to run all their lives, take it up only if you love it).
  4. Eat well. Stop avoiding dairy and poultry, they are delicious and good for your bones-eat those almonds and egg yolks now, or the fatty fish you crave.
  5. Avoid smoking COMPLETELY.
  6. Drink red wine if you must, avoid excess alcohol.
  7. No fried food, grill or bake or saute instead.
  8. Drink fortified milk/ juice.
  9. Do not starve or pine for a size that makes you underweight. Follow the weight/ height chart and maintain a healthy waistline as per recommendations.
  10. Love, laugh…being happy makes you want to live longer 🙂                                                        The gentlemen in the picture above asked me to click a picture of them while I was chasing birds by the roadside…..I enjoy clicking pictures of humans who want to be clicked…:)

Mr Peacock gets up close…..

When birds live in and out of your garden, they begin to trust you…..I was sorting our through the millions of pictures I click of them and realized they are allowing me to get within striking distance …….now they sit by me, even walk on the grass by me, turn their back to me and look at me and the camera, pausing between a water-bath or nectar-fest to pose patiently….my excited high-pitched….’hello beautiful, turn your head, I love you..’…..does not cause alarm….for those who do not believe, Mr Peacock came within 2 feet …I had to move back a few inches to focus……..

Wired up….

Birds hop when they need to go a short distance to conserve energy….we hop to exercise. This little bird kept hopping at regular intervals till I got dizzy from watching…..was it an air show? was the wire too cold? was the bird posing??? a delightful experience…..

The Bird that has its own Fan…

One can not help but be a fan of the bird that displays skill in flying directly overhead…..not too near yet not too far…..when one arches and hyperextends one’s back for a picture……….the endorphin kicks in and a feel-good feeling takes over…..a beautiful bird….I don’t know the name..does it matter???? looks like a Kestrel…..I am a fan of the tail that is like a fan…..the sunlight through the feathers adds another dimension to the beauty of this bird…..so many of them live around us…..they stay away from habitation and hover very high above the open fields…..

Bluethroat bird…..do birds recognize us???

I have been passing by a small swamp in my travels….there lives a beautiful Bluethroat bird there with its partner…..it shied away from the camera the first time, curiosity getting the better of it as it peeped at the camera and me from behind tall weeds…on our nest encounter it came a little closer…..on our third meeting, it sat 5 five feet away from me….allowing me to click several shots…..do birds recognize us..each time a bird in our own garden becomes a little bolder and gets a little closer……the Bluethroat migrates to India in the winter from the UK, Alaska etc!!!!

Broccoli-healthy and tasty recipe

Broccoli is rich in Vitamins and antioxidants…..the best way to eat is by steaming it for 4 minutes to retain the vitamin C and sulforaphane. We steam it for 4 minutes, then stir fry for a minute with sliced garlic and butter…..and add Himalayan salt, freshly ground black pepper, freshly ground red chili flakes…….healthy and tasty….India is the second largest producer of Broccoli and Cauliflower combined!!

Thriving in winter….shake your bootie

The mercury has dipped in many parts of the world. Enjoy the cold and fog as you have no other option if you are working. Here is what works for me…

  1. Eat more, your body is burning more calories. Peanuts, almonds, walnuts, soups, grilled vegetables, meat, spinach, chocolates….indulge 🙂
  2. Get your North Face booties now…..they are the best way to keep the cold out….as they can be worn indoors….comfortable and light, they give instant warmth……
  3. Exercise after a warm up keeps you healthy and happy.
  4. Cover up in layers. The new age heatgen inners are available at MS….I have no financial interest in any product but they are amazing.
  5. Pure wool and one size larger clothes trap your body heat and keep you warm.
  6. Down feather jackets and quilts make it worth it to live in the cold.
  7. Hot drinks like spicy or masala tea, coffee, mulled wine, hot chocolate taste best in the cold.
  8. Woollen socks, mufflers, shoes, boots and caps are most effective.
  9. Drive only as much as is necessary.
  10. Soak in whatever sunlight you get.
  11. Heat the washroom before using it. This is the MOST important way to be healthy as exposure while bathing etc is the most common reason for falling ill.
  12. Don’t forget to cuddle….:)                                                                                                                                Have Fun……Brrrrrrring it on )

Beings and baggage

  • How much baggage do we carry?
  • Why do we carry it?
  • How do we deal with it?
  • I have no answers…but I’ve seen people burdened/ weighed down by what they carry…on their persons and in their souls….
  • The burden of comparison….constantly comparing oneself to others, physically and mentally….extends to comparison of partners and offspring! Please stop….for yourself and your loved ones…
  • Stuff…..belongings……there are no winners…..
  • Burden of our sins…..if you do not purposely repeat our sins/ blunders..let go, forgive yourself
  • We are humans, essentially flawed…no body is the best…I mean, literally…body wise….or the wisest and wittiest…….nobody is infallible….let us enjoy the time we have left….

The picture below made me think of the people who have stuff that fits into one bag…..we can do with less…..mental and emotional baggage….
