Connections with living beings

It is well known that dogs and humans have a special bond. In our home, we have an aquarium and a small pond in which fishes live. I have this annoying habit of touching the aquarium glass with a finger tip….initially, the fish would swim away in a terrified frenzy……now they swim to my finger, and swim towards it repeatedly!!! In particular, two goldfishes compete to make contact….it was difficult to capture these moments as they swim away the moment another person is near!!! I have taken these pictures with my other hand, while I touched my finger-tip of one hand on the glass…..

Black swans—the males are the better halves

In New Zealand, we saw black swans for the first time. They mate for life and are monogamous, the males share the responsibility of bringing up their offspring. When I first saw them, it was a little late in the evening, and they reminded of tiny Loch Ness monsters….they are graceful, with a red bill, which has a spot of white on it.

Celebrating a birthday….

My new year begins with my birthday!!!!!! It’s a day I generally spend with family only….. what makes my day special is…

  1. Thanking my parents in my heart, mind and soul and praying for them to be my parents in every lifetime on earth.
  2. Thanking the powers-that-be for allowing me to experience life and praying for my sister, husband and child to remain as they are and be with me in every life.
  3. Letting go of any annoyance anyone caused me and NOT wasting time thinking of any negative people or event.
  4. Making a new start, but carrying forward the positives (people and events) in my life.
  5. Buying and giving a few things  away to people as gifts who are less privileged.
  6. Being a child…celebrating the fact that I was born.
  7. Singing and dancing and eating all the sweets and chocolate I can.
  8. Smiling….not whining about getting older, but enjoying the fact that I have lived another year, a lot of people do not have that privilege.
  9. My resolution each year is to smile a little more, rave and rant at issues that need attention a little louder, do a little more for those who need my help.
  10. Each year, I care a little less about what others think of me, each year I want to impress myself with my actions….one day I will, may God let me live that long 🙂                  May the powers that be give health and mental, physical, spiritual health to my family and keep us connected. 🙂

Counting my blessings today….

  • Cut a cake on the eve of my entry into the world, and at the stroke of midnight with my loved ones…..with the child being able to share the moment through the internet…..
  • Didn’t sleep at all as we had a pre-sunrise flight to paradise
  • I can walk, talk, eat and laugh today……I have lived another year….that is a miracle
  • I am super excited!!! and full of energy…can’t walk, can only run/ dance—-yup, the chocolates and sugar are responsible…
  • I have the support of those I love, which makes me vocal and free to express my opinion
  • I work, I earn….I give
  • I have fat….will survive a drought
  • I have family and friends who praise and criticise me to my face
  • I known what ‘crazy love’ is………

The picture with the rainbow was taken near our home in an enchanted forest……

Forget-me-not flowers

Tiny blue flowers ever so delicate

Nature’s blue eyed babies

Giggle, twinkle and whisper

“Forget-me-not” when the breeze

Caresses their tender leaves

Blue Butterflies perch on them

Don’t pluck them, that’s a shame…….

Mizo cigarettes-N-E India

Some people in the N-E parts of India smoke hand-rolled cigarettes, which are popularly known as ‘Mizo Cigarettes”. It is postulated that they originated in the state of Mizoram. They are supposed to contain tobacco……while some swear that they are safer than the commercially available cigarettes, others say they are more harmful, as they are more potent and may contain certain hallucinogenic agents….

Human interaction

In the assumably ‘less privileged’ strata of society, we see more of children outdoors, interacting with and playing with each other. It helps them to:

  • Enjoy the spare time they have
  • Be more tolerant
  • Learn social skills( strangely, ‘social’ media makes us more anti-social!!)
  • Forge bonds of long-lasting friendships
  • Improve general health and fitness (mental and physical)
  • Learn the art of negotiation
  • Get Vit D
  • Share information
  • Enjoy mother nature
  • Stay safe, away from the ?? radiation of cell phones and gadgets
  • Enjoy human company and gain confidence
  • Avoid whining and being bored

The outdoors await…..

Ethiopian eggplant -in N-E India

The Ethiopian eggplant grows in India and Africa. It is a vibrant red colour..the people in N-E India eat it raw as well as cooked…it is rich in carotene and fibre…..what more could one want? this plant has the looks and taste that makes you want to eat it again…and again…..it is called a mock tomato as it looks like a cross between a tomato and eggplant….

Gooseberry for Vit C–our way

In our home grows a gooseberry tree which provides an annual crop of the Vit C -laden gooseberries. We have found that eating them raw is almost impossible for us, hence we slightly cook them with fenugreek seeds and green chilies for extra taste and health…Gooseberries are rich in Vit C and contain several other vitamins and minerals.
