Argemone Mexicana…untended, yet strong

The Mexican poppy or flowering thistle are the other names for this plant. As a defensive mechanism, the thorns and toxic effects of the alkaloids in this plant ensure that animals do not eat it. These effects have been used in traditional medicines, the extracts act as purgatives and are used in a variety of disorders like bloating, kidney diseases, placental removal!!! A beautiful, delicate flower atop a bed of thorns….a plant that is strong enough to survive adverse weather and grows in the wild.
