Himalayan Blue Poppy

One of the most exotic flowers that I have seen is the Himalayan Blue Poppy in the high altitude mountain slopes of the Indian Himalayas. This is a flower that makes you stop, gaze, smile and click a picture in your mind. That, and the rarefied mountain air make you gasp awhile!!! It is a delicate plant with rows of flowers one over the other in a vertical fashion, with a dark center peculiar to this region. 

This flower is extremely difficult to cultivate and is known as Meconopsis betonicifolia, also known as the Himalayan blue poppy. It was was first discovered on a failed mission to summit Mount Everest in 1912, by Lt. Col. Frederick Marshman Bailey (source-Wikipedia). It reminded me of butterfly wings……
