A lot of people around us keep ducks, hens, pigs and geese in and around their homes. When 16 ducklings were hatched, we wanted to take a look. When we entered the pen, there was a lot of clucking and flapping of wings, followed by a football/ soccer style huddling of all the grown up birds. We had to peep over the birds that were guarding their young….and caught a glimpse of the cuddly and beautiful 5 day old birds. Is it a maternal instinct? or a nurturing one, which is present in all living beings, regardless of their gender or species? Some of the most nurturing, tolerant and generous people in the world were not mothers, though they have been called ‘Mother’…….
