At Rudraprayag, there is a confluence of the rivers Mandakini and Alaknanda. The Mandakini is called the ‘daughter-in-law’ which is young and green, the Alaknanda is the ‘mother-in-law’ which is older, muddy and gradually pushes the daughter-in-law and changes her colour to brown!! I love folklore….
Of course, when the monsoons are over and the water is crystal clear, the colours of the confluence and the individual rivers are magical….
