Yellow thistle with flowers

Once in a while one comes across a plant that has thorns which can abrade  skin if one gets too close. Does it detract from its appeal?? No, say the butterflies that hover around it, landing perfectly on the single apical yellow flowers. These plants thrive since they possess a natural defence mechanism that protects them from cattle and humans alike…..
